The Union Minister for Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu introduced a historic initiative by Alliance Air, “Fare se Fursat” aimed at fixing the fluctuating ticket prices based on date of booking the ticket1. The initiative will be implemented on a pilot basis from October 13 to December 31, 2025 across select routes, to evaluate its operational feasibility and passenger response.
What Does It Mean
Amidst the aviation boom in India, the launch of this initiative – coinciding with the readiness of the Navi Mumbai and Noida airports – marks a significant step toward truly democratizing air travel. Interestingly, it comes just days before Diwali, a time when airfares typically soar to festive-season highs.
This initiative could well be the starting point for making air travel accessible not only to the elite but also to the common citizen. While India’s aviation market is dominated by giants like IndiGo and Air India, such a move by a regional carrier goes a long way in acknowledging passengers’ frustration over fluctuating fares.
If larger airlines follow suit, fare consistency could finally become a reality – especially benefiting frequent flyers and festive-season travelers.
From a policy perspective, however, the government must go beyond symbolic launches. There is a pressing need to address the recurring issue of skyrocketing fares during festivals in a country where the common man aspires to fly high, even as India’s aviation sector continues to soar.
